Frequently Asked Questions

What does Acupuncture feel like?

Acupuncture needles are very fine, solid, sterile, disposable needles that are about the size of a thick hair. Needle insertion techniques have been developed over the years so that skilled Acupuncturists can place a needle with little or no superficial sensation.

Once the needle has been placed you may feel a sensation of concentrated energy around the insertion point. People comment that the feeling is unfamiliar, sometimes describing it as a numbness, a warmth or a tingling sensation. However, it differs from pain which is often hard for people to comprehend prior to treatment, particularly if you have a phobia about needles.

The overall feeling is meant to be pleasant and relaxing.

How many sessions will I need?

The frequency and number of treatments that you will need is dependent on many factors including vitality of the individual. We will take into account the overall health of your body and the nature of your ailment to give you a rough estimate of how many treatments you will require. However, you should anticipate that it will take 3-4 sessions as a minimum and often more depending on the severity of symptoms & length of time you have been suffering.

How long does the average session last?

Generally speaking, treatments last 30-45 minutes and the longer you have had or the more severe the particular condition, the longer it can take to treat.

Do you accept insurance?

We do accept most forms of insurance. Please contact your provider to see if acupuncture treatments are covered.
